Building Commissioning
For new buildings, or retrofit commissioning for older buildings, building commissioning is a quality assurance process that will verify and document that the systems within a building function as designed and meet the operational needs of both the building owner and the building users. Poorly performing buildings inherently have high costs. The initial costs of commissioning are recovered several times over from the resultant reduction in operation and maintenance costs, lower energy costs because of increased efficiency, and improved staff performance through improved indoor air quality and thermal comfort. This is done by:
Thoroughly documenting system design intent, operating sequences, and test procedures.
Verifying system performance based on extensive functional testing and measurement.
Ensuring that building operations staff members receive the training and resources they need on system operation and maintenance procedures.
